Dakota Rural Action along with the Yankton Sioux and Cheyenne River Sioux Tribes and Intertribal Council on Utility Policy have filed a motion asking the South Dakota Public Utilities Council to reconsider its approval of the permit for the Keystone XL Pipeline. DRA Chairman Don Kelley of Nemo says Trans Canada has had several leaks and problems with their pipeline that speaks for the need for a review of that approval.
He says there have also been problems with Trans Canada’s invoking eminent domain on landowners for their project.
Kelley says the permit never should have been approved in the first place given the turn down at the federal level.
The groups noted that a recent spill of over 16,000 gallons of tar sands near Freeman was due to faulty welds.
