One of the largest community run and owned wind projects in the country is coming to southeastern South Dakota. Dakota Power Community Wind kicks off an equity drive next week. Board Treasurer Brian Minish says Dakota Plains Energy of Aberdeen and Val Add Service are partnering with 100 landowners who have already signed leases for wind turbines on the plateau stretching from Beresford to south of Canton.
Minish says they hope to raise $1.5 to $4 million for the development phase of the project, but the final cost for construction will be around $2 billion.
Only South Dakota residents can invest at a minimum level of $4000. Equity meetings run from June 16 to June 26 and the locations are located on their website at dpcwind.com.
