Protesters with the Standing Rock Sioux tribe declared a major victory on Sunday as the Corps of Engineers announced it will not grant an easement for the Dakota Access oil pipeline in southern North Dakota. Corps officials said in a statement that they will not allow the pipeline to be built under Lake Oahe, a Missouri River reservoir and that they need to “explore alternate routes” for the pipeline’s crossing. Nick Tilsen is with Thunder Valley CDC and has been with protesters at Standing Rock for the past few months…..
Tilsen says this is only a first step for natives and protesters……
Craig Stevens, a spokesman for the MAIN coalition, which supports the pipeline said in a statement…
“This purely political decision flies in the face of common sense and the rule of law. Unfortunately, it’s not surprising that the President would, again, use executive fiat in an attempt to enhance his legacy among the extreme Left.” The pipeline is largely compete across South Dakota and Iowa, with only the segment under the Missouri River in North Dakota left to finish.
