The deadline to enroll in the 2021 Dairy Margin Coverage Insurance program is today at county Farm Service Agency offices. University of Minnesota Dairy Specialist Dr. Marin Bozec says there are two tiers to the DMC insurance program producers may choose from.

He says those dairy producers who have more than 200 or 250 cows should look at combining DMC with the Dairy Revenue Coverage program or enrolling in DRP alone. Bozec says DRP has been very popular in South Dakota.

Bozec says those dairy producers who fail to enroll in either DMC or DRP are putting themselves at the mercy of the market and weather conditions without a positive safety net in place to protect their operations.

Bozec says for anything above the first five million pounds, dairy producers should compliment that with other risk management tools.
