USDA has extended the sign up period for the dairy margin protection program. The original deadline had been the end of this month but now producers have until November 20 to enroll. Minnesota Milk Producer Association President Pat Lunemann says the program was extended due to it being fall harvest time, the busiest period for farmers.
Lunemann says the margin protection program isn’t intended to give producers a profit, it’s really a safety net program.
He says each producer needs to determine whether or not he needs the safety net the margin program provides.
