Dairy Production Increases

In its latest report, the National Milk Producers Federation says milk production is on the rise.  Dairy producers have increased production from a year ago nearly one and a half percent. National Milk Producers Federation’s Chief Economist Peter Vitaliano breaks down the numbers.  Vitaliano says the dairy output performance is significant as it may mean the end of low production.  The National Milk Producers Federation economist says fluid milk demand continues to decline, however, other dairy products such as cheese, butter, yogurt, and ice cream have shown increase consumer demand.  He says fluid milk did increase in demand during the pandemic, but since then it has fallen back to previous demand levels.  The dairy official says the result has been wholesale prices for butter and cheese have increased.  He says milk production goes to fluid milk first, then to cheese, butter, and ice cream production, followed up with milk powder which is usually sent to undeveloped nations needing dairy nutrition.
