Thousands of Sioux Empire Fairgoers learned about livestock and dairy production during the opening weekend of the event. Roger Scheibe with Midwest Dairy Association says as part of the Pipestone Discovery Barn consumers were able to follow the story of how milk gets to their table as they toured the facility and took in family activities.
Midwest Dairy also sponsored a pizza party with Pizza Ranch. Director of Culinary Nancy Jordahl says consumers built a virtual pizza by talking to the farmers that produced each of the different ingredients.
Midwest Dairy also has a new dairy bar as part of the Discovery Barn. Scheibe says the new location has been great and weekend sales of shakes and milk were up 100-percent over last year.
