Immigration reform legislation introduced by Senators Tom Cotton of Arkansas and David Perdue of Georgia would reduce the number of legal immigrants coming into the United States. It emphasizes highly educated immigrant over what are regarded as low skilled laborers. South Dakota Dairy Producers President Marv Post says dairy immigrant workers fit the highly skilled definition.

He says what concerns him however is if that dairy immigrant workforce is reduced from what it is now. Post also says some type of immigration reform needs to be passed by Congress.

Post says what’s positive about the Cotton-Perdue legislation is it’s at least a starting point in getting immigration reform talked about.

The immigration legislation called the RAISE Act seems likely to face opposition from Democrats and some Republicans in the Senate.
