Dairy producers from the Northern Plains lobbied for key dairy policy in Washington D.C. this week. South Dakota Dairy Producers Association President Marv Post says they talked to lawmakers about trade, immigration reform and dairy labeling issues included in the Dairy Pride Act. He says on trade they want a fix to Canada’s dairy pricing system in the NAFTA discussions.
He says on immigration policy they’re backing ag labor legislation carried by Representative Bob Goodlatte.
Post says they also want Congress to pass the Dairy Pride Act to ensure beverage labeled milk comes from cows and not from artificial sources.
He says dairy producers are also asking Congress to exempt agriculture from Electronic Logging Device rules. States represented in the 12-member delegation included South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska.
