Dairy Producers Hope President’s Hard Line on Immigration Moves Reform

This week President Trump is pushing his hard line stance on immigration policy on Congressional leaders. Included in that agenda is a complete overhaul of the green card system and the construction of a wall on the U.S. Mexican border. South Dakota Dairy Producers Association President Marv Post hopes with the President applying pressure, it will lead to legitimate immigration reform that will help production agriculture get the workforce it needs.

He says what’s most critical for the dairy industry is being able to hire workers who are in the country legally, regardless of whether they have a pathway to citizenship or not.

Post says with the current labor issues faced by the dairy industry, producers are having to upgrade their operations with technology to handle the workload and that can be expensive.

House Speaker Paul Ryan’s spokesman says the House immigration working group will review the President’s immigration list and consult with Republican members of Congress and the administration.
