Mexican Ambassador Carlos Sada says his country is ready to modernize the North American Free Trade Agreement and is seeking to restart a guest worker program. That could possibly lead to immigration reform in the U.S. South Dakota Dairy Producers Association President Marv Post says the Mexican Ambassador’s comments are positive toward possible immigration reform and he believes President Elect Trump is always willing to negotiate.
He says immigrant workers are anxious to work in the United States and that President Elect Trump wants to rework NAFTA anyway so hopefully this will lead to an opening for the workers U.S. agriculture is looking for.
Post says the idea that immigrant workers on U.S. dairies don’t pay taxes is untrue. He says those on his dairy and others are paying U.S. taxes and contributing to the economy.
Post is hoping the message of those immigrant laborers paying taxes and assisting the U.S. economy will get through to Trump and convince him to work with the new Congress to get an immigration bill passed.
