The Yankton County Commission will host a public meeting this week to talk about forming a dairy overlay district.

Zoning rules in the district would allow the possible development of new dairy operations. The zone would center on Highways 81 and 46 to keep traffic on roads that can handle it.

Commission Chairman Todd Woods says they want to get ahead of any potential development discussion

Woods says it would be a chance for local producers to find additional markets

Woods says the development of the dairy zone will be up to producers and the public

The meeting will be Wednesday evening at the north side fire station in Yankton.
