The recent wrangling over the border crisis involving tens of thousands of young migrants coming into the United States may be the catalyst for one more try at immigration reform. South Dakota Dairy Association President Marv Post of Volga says having an issue where Congress needs to act may push them to do the right thing and pass an immigration bill.
President Obama wants $ 3.7 billion in emergency spending for the border crisis and Congress is insisting on paring that down to $ 1.5 billion. Post says money isn’t really the issue with the border crisis and immigration problem, it’s a situation where Congress needs to pass something for the good of the country.
Post says some type of federal immigration program is needed for agriculture and it must include a pathway to citizenship. He says his industry needs workers who are in the country legally and can prove that.
