Lawmakers on both sides of the immigration reform debate say the issue is effectively dead until after President Obama leaves office. That despite the fact the President called immigration reform his top priority. South Dakota Dairy Producers Association President Marv Post says although it may be an uphill battle, he’s not giving up on pushing for the legislation.
Post says an immigration program that provides for a reliable workforce is critical to dairy producers in South Dakota and the entire Midwest partly because it’s difficult to get workers to relocate from other areas.
Post says not only is a reliable workforce needed but lawmakers need to secure the border, another important component of the immigration reform debate.
