Dairy Industry Pushing for Immigration Reform

A major part of the House plan to fix the DACA, or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, is a complete overhaul of the agricultural guest worker program. Minnesota Milk Producer’s Association Executive Director Lucas Sjostrom says the dairy industry needs immigrant workers and they’re open to any immigration reform options that give them access to this labor pool.

The House immigration proposal includes Congressman Bob Goodlatte’s agricultural guest worker act. However, Sjostrom says the Senate is taking a different approach.

He says most members of Congress want the immigration problem solved, the question is the best way to fix it.

Sjostrom says his group has been hoping for passage of immigration legislation for some time and he’s pleased Congress is finally getting serious about it.
