A group of 67 dairy companies and associations are urging U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai to initiate a dispute settlement case with Canada’s government over its dairy tariff rate quota. National Milk Producers Federation Senior Vice President of Trade Policy Shawna Morris says the case should go forward if there isn’t a resolution reached at the USMCA Trade Commission meeting this week.

She says a major part of the TRQ problem is that Canada’s dairy processors are getting up to 85 percent of the business at the expense of the U.S.

Morris says not only does there need to be enforcement of the USMCA deal but also all trade deals the U.S. enters into.

Morris says the trade dispute with Canada has been going on since last year when the U.S.T.R. began the process of seeking consultation on the dairy problem setting the stage for further action pending no resolution.
