The dairy industry has been reviewing the Federal Milk Marketing Orders the last year to 18 months to provide a roadmap for modernization of that system.  Dr. Marin Bozic with the University of Minnesota’s Department of Applied Economics says changes are needed so all dairy producers can benefit from the program and not just those selling fluid milk.

He’s formulated a transparency program he thinks will also level the playing field for dairy producers in the region and help them work more effectively with processors.

Bozic says there must also be fairness in milk contracting.

Bozic says his proposed changes to the Federal Milk Marketing Orders will need to be part of the Farm Bill.
