A new storytelling campaign launched by the U.S. dairy industry aims to shine a brighter, data-driven spotlight on the positive effects of dairy’s economic engine. Major dairy groups are collaborating to create the new campaign “Got Jobs? Dairy Creates Jobs, Exports Create More.” Former Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack, now with U.S. Dairy Export Council, says the dairy industry contributes $628 billion and nearly 3 million jobs to the economy.
He says they hope their campaign also reinforces the importance of exports and the current focus on global trade to not only agriculture, but the overall economy.
And Vilsack says they hope policymakers understand dairy’s economic ripple effect on the national economy. It contributes nearly $25 billion in state and local business tax revenues and another nearly $40 billion in federal business tax revenues.
He says the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA) and the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) are also collaborating on the export campaign.
