Dairy Groups Welcome FDA Comment Period on Dairy Food Labeling

Dairy groups are welcoming the Food and Drug Administration’s request for public comments on dairy food labeling. Both the National Milk Producers Federation and Minnesota Milk Producers Association are hoping this will end the misleading practices of plant-based foods imitating real dairy products. Minnesota Milk Producers Association Executive Director Lucas Sjostrom says it’s a big issue, that’s only going to get bigger.

He says it’s important consumers get the proper information about what they’re buying through the labels, which dictate real milk must come from a dairy animal.

Sjostrom says even Canada and the European Union support proper labeling of dairy products.

Dairy groups say just adding protein, calcium and a few other ingredients to a product doesn’t make it milk.
