A coalition of U.S. dairy groups including the National Milk Producers Federation and U.S. Dairy Export Council is urging the Trump administration to reach a trade agreement with Japan quickly. South Dakota Dairy Producers Association President Marv Post says it’s important that deal be reached because it would be very beneficial for America’s dairy producers.

He says if an agreement with Japan can be secured it will level the playing field for U.S. dairy producers letting them compete with other countries for that market.

Post says the Japanese have been good customers of U.S. dairy products in the past and with a positive trade pact, that market should grow even more.

The U.S. exported $270 million in dairy products to Japan in 2018.
