The National Milk Producers Federation says Congress needs to pas the DAIRY PRIDE ACT soon to ensure the Food and Drug Administration does its job. Also pushing for that is the South Dakota Dairy Producers Association. President Marv Post says that measure is needed to make sure the FDA enforces proper labeling of milk as well as mis-labeling of imitation products.

He says the legislation would make sure the laws already on the books are enforced and that there isn’t a need to put forward any new laws to make sure products are truthfully labeled.

Post says let the consumers decide what they want based on accurate labeling., and if that’s done in most cases, they’ll choose real milk, not imitation products.

The DAIRY PRIDE ACT would require FDA to issue guidance for federal enforcement of mislabeled imitation dairy products within 90 days of its passage and also requires the agency to report to Congress two years after enactment.
