United States Dairy groups including the National Milk Producers Federation have written to President Donald Trump concerned over the steel and aluminum tariffs placed on Mexico. Federation’s Chris Galen says Mexico is our top export market for dairy and they’ve just retaliated due to the steel and aluminum dispute.
He says while they support the President in holding trade partners accountable like with Canada but Mexico is a different situation when it comes to trade.
Galen says the recent market disruption and trade war comes at a time when the U.S. dairy industry is already suffering from low prices.
Galen says his group is also concerned that the tariffs will diminish demand for high quality dairy products that are produced across the United States.
