This week the National Milk Producers Federation, along with the U.S. Dairy Export Council, sent a letter to President Elect Donald Trump outlining the importance of exports to the dairy industry. The Federation’s Chris Galen says they’re anxious to work with the new President on export and trade policy.
He says over the last 10 to 15 years dairy exports have risen to just over $5 billion and its critical to at least maintain or increase access to those markets.
Galen says both the Federation and Export Council share the President’s views on having good and fair trade deals and they want to work with him to achieve that.
In the letter, the dairy groups pointed out that there are rampant foreign non-tariff barriers that require increased trade enforcement. They’re also asking the new administration to closely monitor our trading partner’s compliance with existing market access concessions.
