The Nebraska State Dairy Association is joining the National Milk Producers Federation in hailing the reintroduction in Congress of the Dairy Pride Act. The legislation will bring clear, accurate labeling information for consumers and end harmful mislabeling of dairy foods for plant based products. Nebraska State Dairy Executive Director Kris Bousquet says the mislabeling issue hits more than just dairy producers and needs to be fixed.

He says dairy producers have a far better product that is being harmed by the mislabeling that’s been allowed to go on. Bousquet says FDA has the authority to address this but hasn’t so it’s necessary to enact the DAIRY PRIDE Act.

Bousquet says his group has testified in support of the measure in the pass and fully backs the move to reintroduce the bill.

Bousquet says when enforced standards of identity legally defines what constitutes a specific food or food product then those standards protect consumers by helping to ensure the integrity of their food.
