The American Dairy Coalition recently sent a letter to Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue and to Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar regarding whole milk. They’re expressing concern at the Dietary Guideline Advisory Committee’s recommendation to continue a ban on whole milk in schools. Minnesota Milk Producers Association Executive Director Lucas Sjostrom says recent research has shown whole milk is healthy and should be provided to school children.

He says it’s proven the type of fat in whole milk is not only healthy but preferable to products that replace it that aren’t as healthy.

Sjostrom says the proper research should determine what’s allowed in school diets and what isn’t and not politics.

The Dietary Guidelines Committee is expected to come out with its final recommendations by the end of the year.
