Dairy Groups including the National Milk Producers Federation, and U.S. Dairy Export Council along with the Iowa State Dairy Association are commending President Joe Biden for his nomination of Elaine Trevino as Chief Ag Trade Negotiator in the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office. Iowa State Dairy Association Executive Director Mitch Schulte says trade is critical for America’s dairy producers and having the Chief Ag Negotiators position filled is key In helping to achieve that.

He says it’s also important that there be a Chief Ag Trade Negotiator on board in making sure trading partners adhere to the agreements they signed such as with Mexico and Canada in the USMCA deal.

Schulte says Trevino should be helpful in pushing forward other trade agreements for U.S. dairy such as with Japan and other Far Eastern Countries.

The dairy groups are urging the U.S. Senate to move quickly in confirming Trevino as Chief Ag Trade Negotiator
