Dairy Groups Asking USDA For Financial Help

The National Milk Producers Federation along with the International Dairy Foods Association are asking the USDA for financial assistance for their producers. Minnesota Milk Producers Association’s Executive Director Lucas Sjostrom says many dairy producers are losing money and that’s being compounded by the negative impacts of the coronavirus. He says they’re asking their members to weigh in with the Ag Secretary.

He says the primary need for dairy producers is the direct aid as well as assistance needed for those who have had to dump milk.

Sjostrom says another thing that could be of great help to dairy producers is adjusting the Dairy Margin Coverage insurance program to allow dairy farmers to be able to update their production history.

America’s dairy producers have been under five straight years of poor milk prices and were just starting to recover when the COVID 19 pandemic hit.
