Dairy farmers have until the end of May to sign up this year for insurance coverage under the Margin Protection Program. They can sign up at their local county Farm Service Agency Office. National Milk Producer Federation President and CEO Jim Mulhern says it’s something dairy producers should consider doing as changes to the program have made it a better safety net than in the past.

He says the margins for February and March this year are beneficial for dairy producers who sign up.

Mulhern says April is basically the same as February and March and May and June are even more attractive.

Mulhern says producers need to sign up at their county Farm Service Agency offices before June 1.
