This week the Iowa House on a 75 to 18 vote passed HF 522, legislation that allows ag operations to add anaerobic manure digesters for methane capture. Iowa State Dairy Association Executive Director Mitch Schulte says that will help dairy producers store liquid manure and is a beneficial bill for all of agriculture.

He says anaerobic digesters not only benefit the environment they also provide an economic boost for dairy producers.

Schulte says the provisions called for in HF 522 won’t lead to environmental problems but will be beneficial in the long run.

Schulte is hopeful that because HF 522 passed by such a wide margin it’ll get similar backing in the State Senate.
