The U.S. Department of Agriculture has extended the enrollment period for both the Dairy Margin Coverage and Market Facilitation Payment Programs with the new deadline being December 20. Interested producers need to sign up at their county Farm Service Agency office. Iowa State Dairy Association Executive Director Mitch Schulte says having the D-M-C extended is good in that it gives producers time to consider whether or not the program will help them.

He says many of their Association dairy producer members have already enrolled in D-M-C because its greatly improved over the old program.

Schulte advises producers considering the D-M-C to at least enroll the first five million pounds of milk they produce.

Schulte says producers should also sign up for the Market Facilitation Payment Program even though it won’t reimburse them from the total trade war damage, it will at least provide some help.
