Dairy Executive Director Says Immigration Reform Needed

It appears as if it will be difficult to pass comprehensive immigration reform this year. Republicans and Democrats are at odds over what kind of package should be approved if any. South Dakota Dairy Association Executive Director Roger Scheibe says the House just needs to get something passed so there is a way for foreign workers to become legal. He says that workforce is badly needed for the dairy industry.
Scheibe says not only does the dairy industry need a reliable workforce but so do vegetable growers in other parts of the country. He says if that isn’t achieved, food produced by those industries will have to come from outside the United States thus hampering our food security.
The Senate last year passed an immigration bill while the House has yet to act.
