The deadline to enroll in USDA’s Dairy Margin Coverage Insurance program is this Friday (December 11). University of Minnesota Dairy Economist Dr. Marin Bozec advises dairy producers to enroll in that program as he expects an oversupply of cheese next year which could lead to lower milk prices.

He expects DMC payments next year to pay off for most producers taking care of whatever premium cost they acquire when they sign up.

Bozec says for most dairy producers, DMC provides them a very effective risk management tool.

Bozec says another valuable program for dairy producers to consider enrolling in, is the Dairy Revenue Coverage program which has been very popular in the Dakotas.
