Iowa State scored a pair of second-half goals in a 2-nil victory over South Dakota Tuesday afternoon at Cyclone Sports Complex.

The match was the final in South Dakota’s (1-6-1) daunting six-game non-conference road stretch. It was also Iowa State’s (6-2-0) final non-conference tune-up ahead of Big 12 action next week.

The Cyclones’ initial goal was set up on a play following a diving save by sophomore goalkeeper Parker Rytz. Rytz had batted an incoming shot to safety, resulting in an Iowa State corner kick. While Emily Steil’s corner was deflected out of the box, the Cyclones played the ball back into dangerous territory in the 55th minute. Iowa State’s Anna Frerichs won the ball out of a cluster of players on the left post, which drew Rytz near side. With Rytz off her line, Frerichs pocketed the goal with a low pass to the far corner.

A Coyote foul 20 yards out on the left flank resulted in the Cyclones doubling their lead in the 74th minute. Steil sent the free kick into the six-yard box. Iowa State’s Danielle Moore met the cross in the air, heading it just inside the near post.

With the road trip concluded, the Coyotes host Eastern Washington and UMKC this weekend. The Eastern Washington match kicks off at 4 p.m. Friday at the First Bank & Trust Soccer Complex.
