A delegation of grain importers and officials from Cuba are traveling in the United States this week. On Monday, the group met with U.S. Grains Council officials in Washington, D.C.
Council Chairman Alan Tiemann says the visit is a follow-up to a trip they and NCGA officials made to Cuba a year and a half ago. He says they’re educating the Cubans on how the export market works and trying to capture more of their business. He says the Cubans are very interested in U.S. corn and Dried Distillers Grains.
Tiemann says it’s important the U.S. keeps working in the Cuban market, even ahead of the possible lifting of the embargo because competing countries are vying for that same business.
Tiemann says the Cuban delegation is taking a farm tour of the eastern shore of Maryland, and then will travel to St. Louis and New Orleans to meet with additional ag companies and organizations.
