Companion legislation to ease all travel restrictions with Cuba is expected to be introduced in the House this week. The measure came up last week in the Senate and is expected to lead to more trade with the island nation. South Dakota Farmers Union President Doug Sombke says that additional market will be very helpful for farmers in the Northern Plains.
The Lead sponsor in the Senate, Jeff Flake of Arizona said that allowing unlimited travel to Cuba would encourage their government to open up its economy. Sombke agrees and says that benefit both Cuba and the United States.
Besides lifting all travel restrictions the two pieces of legislation will also ease restrictions on banking transactions.
