Crops Begin To Emerge

Delayed planting has meant slow emergence for this year’s row crops.  For many states within the region, corn emergence is at or below 15 percent.  Joel DeJong, Crops Specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach for northwest Iowa says so far, there haven’t been many problems with the emergence of corn and soybeans.  Along with the crops emerging, also comes the weeds.  DeJong says if farmers skipped on the pre-emergence herbicides they are noticing both grasses and broadleaves in their fields.
