Farmers across the country are still behind with their spring planting, but according to the latest USDA weekly crop progress report, many are catching up.  Corn planting in the top 18 corn producing states is now listed as being 94 percent complete, compared to 98 percent done a year ago, and the five-year average of 92 percent.  78 percent of the nation’s corn has emerged which compares to last year’s rate of 89 percent.  However, the condition of the corn crop during the early growing season appears to be in good shape with 72 percent of the nation’s corn in good to excellent condition.  78 percent of the nation’s soybeans have been planted with 56 percent having emerged.
