Winter Wheat harvest in South Dakota will likely get underway in the next two weeks around the Fourth of July. South Dakota Wheat Commission Executive Director Reid Christopherson says the crop is progressing well with much of it already colored.
He says there are some diseases out there including stripe and leaf rust and wheat streak mosaic virus but most of the major diseases have not shown up this year.
Christopherson says market analysts are predicting an average crop although at this time much of it is looking very good.
Christopherson says much of how the crop ends up will depend upon if it got enough and timely moisture. He says however what he’s seen so far traveling around the state has been very good.
