The pesticide industry is asking the Trump administration to exempt chemical imports from China from the potential $300 billion in new 25 percent tariffs the President is threatening to impose next month on Chinese goods. Crop Life America President and CEO Chris Novak says the negative impacts of any trade war escalation will continue to fall on farmers.
He says the pesticide and ag chemical companies his group represents sources many of the products America’s farmers use such as glyphosate, 2-4-D,, atrazine and dicamba from China.
Novak expressed his tariff concerns with a panel made up of the U.S. Trade Representative’s office, the Departments of State and Commerce and the USDA.
Novak says many of the chemicals that could fall under the tariffs can’t be easily sourced from other countries or produced in America.
