Crop Insurance Losses Expected to be Shallow in Corn Belt

Despite widespread drought in the United States this year crop insurance claims may be lower than earlier anticipated. National Crop Insurance Services Head of Sales Jeff Farr says many farmers were pleasantly surprised with their yields this fall, at least in the Corn Belt and Northern Plains.

Aside from the Pacific Northwest, he doesn’t think many farmers will have deep losses and big crop insurance payouts.

Farr says agents are also working with farmers to dovetail the disaster program provisions into their crop insurance coverage and risk management strategy.

He says there will be some changes to crop insurance for 2022 and farmers need to check with their agent to see how those will impact their coverage.
