The crop insurance harvest deadline for row crops is December 10. USDA Risk Management Agency Regional Director Eric Bashore says farmers in the region who are experiencing harvest delays should contact their Approved Insurance Provider to file a Notice of Loss and request more time to harvest before the end of the insurance period.
He says once that notice is filed, crop insurance adjusters can settle the claims based on the amount of harvested production.
Bashore says it’s important to file a notice even if a producer doesn’t have a loss because with the delayed harvest there could be damage later on. Crop insurance providers may allow additional time to harvest, on a case-by-case basis.
Bashore adds that the cost of drying the harvested crop is not covered.
