Farmers in several eastern South Dakota counties are seeing crop damage from this week’s storms and flooding. Three tornadoes hit Sioux Falls and fields in both Lincoln and Minnehaha Counties received 3 to 9 inches of rain. Minnehaha County Farm Service Agency Executive Director Leah Turgeson says this week’s moisture left crops standing in water and created erosion problems.
She says the biggest concern is if fields will dry out enough to allow harvest or if farmers will have to wait for a hard freeze.
Lincoln County Farm Service Agency Director Lynn Chilson says they had some minor crop damage and some buildings destroyed by the storm.
Both counties had a large amount of prevented plant acres this year with Minnehaha County recording just over 93,000 acres.
