The Coalition for a Prosperous America is calling on the U.S. government to halt all Brazilian fresh meat and Chinese poultry imports due to safety concerns. CPA CEO Michael Stumo says those imports are not verified to be as safe as U.S. produced food. He says both countries have a myriad of food safety problems.
He says a recent OIG finding shows there have been no audits done by the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service
od Safety and Inspection Service showing that imported food from Brazil and China meets U.S. safety standards.
Stumo says critical control points need to be verified and regularly upgraded, record keeping needs to be documented and FSIS needs to do direct inspections of all foreign imports.
Stumo says the recent OIG report points out these food safety protection failures by USDA FSIS increases the risk to public health within the United States.
