CPA Disappointed House Leaders Block Resolution To Withdraw From The WTO

House Democratic leaders have blocked a vote on a resolution calling for the U.S. to withdraw from the World Trade Organization. Coalition for a Prosperous America’s CEO Michael Stumo is disappointed House leaders made that move despite Senior Committee leaders bringing the resolution forward.

He says the resolution is dead for the year now, and it’s not good the leaders didn’t even give Representatives an opportunity to vote on the resolution.

Stumo says the WTO has not been friendly to U.S. agriculture and the U.S. needs to withdraw from the WTO.

When the U.S. joined the WTO in 1994, Congress guaranteed there would be a vote every five years in the House and Senate on whether or not to continue participating in it.
