The Coalition for a Prosperous America is condemning the ruling issued this week by the World Trade Organization against U.S. tariffs on imports from China. CPA CEO Michael Stumo says the WTO’s decision means that the bureaucrats in Geneva don’t want the United States to make its own trade or national policy.

He says this WTO ruling can be appealed but likely won’t accomplish anything.

Stumo says the U.S. could just walk away from membership in the WTO and that the agency could just become an organization with little powers like the United Nations.

The Section 301 of the Trade Act is a key enforcement tool to address a wide variety of unfair acts by U.S. trading partners. The USTR concluded that China’ s discriminatory practices cost the United States $50 billion annually.
