The Coalition for a Prosperous America is praising the latest implementation of tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese imports. CPA CEO Michael Stumo says the tariff actions are a necessary response to China’s refusal to end dozens of commercial espionage and technology transfer practices. He says the U.S. has been hurt by China’s hacking and intellectual property theft campaign.
He says China is failing to change its unfair trade behavior despite 16 years of multi year negotiations to compel them to do so. Stumo says following that the President responded with this latest round of tariffs to try and force them to change.
Stumo says U.S. manufacturing is holding up under the Trade War while American agriculture has been hit hard by retaliation. He says he’s meeting with the President to talk about helping farmers and ranchers.
Stumo says he’ll be urging the administration to look at exchange rates and excessive dollar overvaluation.
