The University of South Dakota basketball teams scored a sweep of season openers with the men winning at home and the women on the road.

The Todd Lee era for the South Dakota men’s basketball team opened with an 83-58 victory over York College Wednesday night inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.

Junior Triston Simpson led the way with a career-high 23 points as senior Trey Burch-Manning totaled 22 points and eight rebounds.

South Dakota’s lone senior Allison Arens tipped off her final campaign by scoring her 1,000th career point Wednesday night in Omaha as the Coyote women defeated Creighton 77-65.

The other South Dakota (1-0) storyline was junior Taylor Frederick’s career game in her first career start. Frederick put away 26 points on 9-of-12 shooting with a trio of triples.
