Another victory for the South Dakota women and a road loss for the Coyote men in Saturday basketball action for USD.
South Dakota’s bench lit the spark for the Coyotes as they ran away from the Bison 80-54 inside the DakotaDome Saturday afternoon.
South Dakota (17-5, 8-1 Summit) won its seventh consecutive game against the Bison with senior guards Nicole Seekamp and Tia Hemiller leading the way. Seekamp finished with 17 points, four assists and three steals. Hemiller had 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
However in the game’s 26-point differential, the Coyote bench made the difference by outscoring the Bison 33-14.
Omaha seniors Devin Patterson and Jake White scored 26 and 24 points, respectively, to lead the Mavericks to a 96-83 win against South Dakota Saturday at Baxter Arena.
Omaha’s win completed the first regular season sweep of the series since the old NCC rivals became Summit League foes four years ago. The Mavericks (15-8, 7-2 Summit), who have won nine of their last 11, remain in a first-place tie atop the Summit League standings with South Dakota State.
The Coyotes (10-13, 2-7) got 14 points off the bench from both Tyler Flack and Shy McClelland, but lost their third in a row. USD also lost for the first time this season when scoring at least 80 points (6-1). South Dakota returns to Vermillion and will host Fort Wayne Thursday inside the DakotaDome.
