A close road loss for the men and an easy home win for the women as the University of South Dakota basketball squads were in action Wednesday night.
The USD men had four chances to tie or take the lead in the final 15 seconds, but couldn’t find the mark in an 84-82 loss to UMKC.
Senior guard LaVell Boyd scored the final eight points for UMKC (6-2) and finished with a team-high 19. Coyote sophomore Matt Mooney tallied a season-high 23 points, but missed a 3-pointer near the buzzer that would have won it. The game served as the completion of a home-and-home series started a year ago in South Dakota’s 79-70 win in Vermillion.
Coyote women’s sophomore guard Allison Arens scored 23 points and freshman guard Ciara Duffy added a career high 21 points as USD defeated Concordia-St. Paul 83-58 Wednesday night inside the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
South Dakota improves to 6-1 on the year. The game served as an exhibition for Concordia-St. Paul, who enters NSIC play at Augustana on Friday.
