South Dakota senior Emily Grove finished runner-up in the pole vault to lead the Coyotes on the final day of the 107th annual Drake Relays at Drake Stadium.
Grove sailed over 14 feet, 1 ¼ inches for second place. Her season-best 14-2 is tied for 10th nationally. Junior Emily Brigham placed sixth with a make at 13-3 ½.
Senior Teivaskie Lewin finished fourth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 13.86.
The women’s 4×100 shuttle hurdle relay of junior Ashley Thompson, freshman Alanisse Williams, freshman Haley Bruggeman and sophomore Shanice Cannigan qualified for the finals in the morning with a time of 60.53. The relay placed fourth in the finals with an improved clocking of 59.81 seconds.
Senior Katie Wetzstein crossed the line in 4:24.76 for fourth in the 1,500 meters. Wetzstein took the unseeded 800 meter race at the distance carnival Thursday night.
Sophomore Danielle Waldner posted top-10 finishes in both the shot put and hammer throw. Waldner broke her shot put record for the third time this season with a throw of 52-3 ¼. The mark is a half-inch shy of her indoor school record. Waldner added an eighth-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 177-11.
Three-time Olympian and throws coach A.G. Kruger captured the hammer throw with a launch of 240-5. The mark breaks the Drake Relays record in the event. Senior Kyle McKelvey threw a new personal best of 178-0 for 20th overall.
South Dakota competes at the Howard Wood Relays in Sioux Falls, S.D., next weekend.
